South Cotabato nutrition champions gather in Davao conference to push for stronger food and nutrition security

South Cotabato, Philippines | October 1, 2025 – Local leaders and nutrition advocates from across Mindanao came together this week for the Mindanao Conference on Food and Nutrition Security for Local Government Units, held in Davao City.

The event signals a renewed and collective effort to improve nutrition governance in Mindanao, Community Affairs Officer IV Angela B. Frugalidad said.

“This is more than just a conference. It’s the start of a shared journey—one where we work hand in hand to build a healthier, stronger Mindanao,” Frugalidad said in an interview.

The conference highlighted the vital role of LGUs in ensuring food and nutrition security in their communities.

“The gathering focused on empowering LGUs, recognizing their crucial role in carrying out PPAN’s programs at the grassroots level,” she said.

Frugalidad said with their on-the-ground knowledge and deep ties to local communities, LGUs are seen as key drivers of real, sustainable change.

The two-day conference committed to align local policies with national nutrition goals and ensure that no community is left behind.

The slogan #NutrisyongSapatParaSaLahat echoes throughout the venue, reminding everyone of the mission at hand—adequate nutrition for all.

Participants shared insights and strategies aimed at strengthening the implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023–2028.

The LGUs, national agencies, and stakeholders are pushing forward with one vision of a well-nourished, vibrant, and resilient Mindanao.
