South Cotabato, Philippines—The Provincial Government of South Cotabato took a groundbreaking step towards digitalization by becoming the first province in the region to collaborate with GCash, enhancing accessibility and efficiency in government transactions. Through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing, cashless payment options are now available for various economic and public services in the province, Economic, Investment and Promotions Center Head Tyron Jan Villanueva.
The partnership enables users to complete transactions for South Cotabato Economic Enterprise Management Office (SCEEMO) economic facilities and the Provincial Treasurer’s Office (PTO) services through convenient digital payment methods, including:
Scan to Pay – Allowing customers to pay instantly via QR code scanning.
Bills Payment – Enabling seamless online payments for government fees.
According to Villanueva this initiative aligns with Governor Reynaldo Tamayo, Jr.’s vision for digital transformation, ensuring that government services are more accessible, efficient, and hassle-free.
“This milestone signifies South Cotabato’s commitment to innovation and modernization, making government transactions more convenient for our constituents,” Villanueva stated.
By adopting cashless payment solutions, the province aims to improve transparency, reduce long queues, and provide a more efficient way for residents to complete their transactions. The digital payment system is expected to streamline operations in SCEEMO-run economic facilities and PTO services, ultimately benefiting businesses and the general public.
The provincial government assures that this move towards digitalization is just the beginning, as more initiatives are set to follow in line with its continuous efforts to modernize public service delivery.
With this pioneering effort, South Cotabato is leading the way in leveraging technology for a more progressive and service-oriented governance.
