SOUTH COTABATO — The South Cotabato Provincial Hospital (SCPH) maintains a sufficient supply of anti-rabies vaccines for patients seeking treatment at its Outpatient Department (OPD), according to OPD Head Dr. Anna Marie Tuburan.
“Yes, ever since, we have sufficient supply of our anti-rabies vaccine,” Tuburan said.
She explained, however, that the availability of anti-venom for snake-bite cases remains limited due to the province’s allocated supply, which is distributed among government and private hospitals.
Tuburan said the allocation can at times be limited to only around 10 doses, depending on the province’s available supply.
She also clarified that anti-venom is not universally applicable to all snake-bite cases, as treatment depends on the type of snake involved.
According to Tuburan, cases involving specific venomous snakes, such as cobras, may require a corresponding anti-venom that may not be part of the available supply intended for bites from locally common snake species.
Despite the limited allocation, SCPH continues to accommodate patients from across South Cotabato, providing assessment and appropriate medical intervention for those seeking treatment.
The hospital also continues to encourage individuals bitten by snakes or other potentially rabid animals to seek immediate medical attention to ensure proper assessment and timely treatment.
Tuburan said the hospital remains committed to providing available services and responding to the healthcare needs of patients across the province..
