South Cotabato, Philippines – The Provincial Government of South Cotabato, through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVet), is joining the world in observing World Rabies Day on September 28, 2025, under the theme “Act Now: You, Me, Community,” reaffirming its commitment to eliminating rabies through collective action.
This year’s theme emphasizes the shared responsibility of individuals, families, and communities in halting dog-mediated rabies, while advancing the One Health approach that links the well-being of people, animals, and the environment.
To mark the occasion, OPVet has prepared a lineup of activities to strengthen rabies prevention and awareness. Among these is the free vaccination of dogs and cats, an ongoing province-wide initiative that remains central to the campaign.
“Even before World Rabies Day, we have been rolling out programs like free vaccinations for dogs and cats across South Cotabato,” said OPVet Chief Dr. Byron Dela Cruz.
Beyond vaccinations, OPVet teams will visit different municipalities to conduct Information and Education Campaigns (IEC) and provide technical assistance to local governments implementing kapon (castration) programs.
A special castration drive is also set in Koronadal City on September 20, 2025.
One of the main highlights of the celebration will be the turnover of a new Dog Impounding Facility in Polomolok, a move aimed at bolstering responsible pet ownership and rabies prevention efforts in the province.
With these initiatives, South Cotabato continues to position itself at the forefront of the rabies-free movement, urging every resident to play an active role in safeguarding both human and animal lives.
