Koronadal City, South Cotabato — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato recognizes outstanding leadership and transparent governance as it awards the province’s top-performing barangays during the Provincial Liga Day and ANGAT: SGLG-B Awards held last August 19, 2026, at the South Cotabato Gym and Cultural Center.
The ANGAT: SGLG-B Awards, is an awards program to recognize outstanding Barangays in the province of South Cotabato. The Awards ceremony is Spearheaded by the Research, Evaluation, and Monitoring Division under the Office of the Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator (PPDC).
The program serves as a localized version of the national SGLG program which highlights excellence in local governance by assessing barangay performance across critical areas of leadership, transparency, and community development.
A total of 33 barangays from across the province were nominated for prestigious recognition, with over ₱6.5 million in total incentives. The top-performing barangay received ₱1.2 million, while other winners received corresponding cash rewards based on their rankings, all aimed at further strengthening governance initiatives at the barangay level.
Barangay Poblacion of Tupi emerged as this year’s Most Outstanding Barangay, followed by Barangay Dajay, Surallah; Barangay Poblacion, Tampakan; Barangay San Vicente, Sto. Niño; Barangay Lopez Jaena, Norala; and Barangay Crossing Palkan, Polomolok.
Vergel Javier, Punong Barangay of Poblacion, Tupi, expressed gratitude for the recognition. He disclosed that their victory is the result of the collaborative efforts of the members of the Barangay council and their constituents.
“Tinitiyak natin na tulong-tulong tayo, teamwork sa lahat ng barangay functionaries at sa lahat ng mga komunidad ng barangay poblacion, walang napag-iiwanan lalo na sa paghahatid ng serbisyo publiko,” said Javier.
Furthermore, PB Javier also stated that winning this award further pushes them and drives them to work towards a more transparent and better Barangay Poblacion.
The evaluation covered key pillars of good governance, including Financial Administration and Sustainability, Social Protection and Sensitivity, Business Friendliness and Competitiveness, Agricultural Support Services, Basic Education Service Delivery, Excellent Health Governance, and Environmental Management.
Aside from the top performers, the Provincial Government also ensures that all non-winning barangays received a ₱100,000 consolation prize.
Through the ANGAT Awards: SGLG-B, South Cotabato continues to champion good governance at the grassroots which help empower barangay leaders to uphold accountability, integrity, and innovation in serving their communities.
