South Cotabato sets consultation with transport groups on route plan

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato will hold a public consultation with transport groups for the proposed Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) 2025–2029.

The consultation will gather inputs from operators and drivers to help improve transport routes and services across the province.

Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. stressed the need for collaboration.

“This consultation allows us to hear directly from transport groups and develop a practical and organized route plan for commuters,” he said.

Marites S. Tanseco, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator, said the province will continue working closely with stakeholders throughout the planning process.

“The Technical Working Group said the activity will open discussions on routes, coverage, and service improvements,” Tanseco said.

The LPTRP will guide public transport routes and services in the province from 2025 to 2029.

Transport groups are encouraged to participate in the consultation, set in the last week of April 2026.

The Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) is a five-year blueprint that identifies the specific routes and number of vehicle units needed to meet local passenger demand.

Under the national Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), LGUs are now the primary architects of their own transport systems, ensuring that routes are based on actual community needs rather than top-down mandates.

LGUs such as Santo Tomas (Davao del Norte) and Cagayan de Oro have secured Notices of Compliance (NOC), serving as models for transport mapping and cooperative consolidation.
