South Cotabato, Philippines – The Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVet) intensified its rabies prevention campaign while extending vital veterinary services to farmers during an outreach program in Sitio Datal Ngisi, Barangay Kablon, Tupi.
Twenty dogs and two cats were vaccinated against rabies, while 2 dogs received medical treatment during the program.
A total of 44 farmers benefited from the activity, which provided free treatment and preventive care for their animals. OPVet recorded 288 animals dewormed and administered antibiotics and vitamins to improve livestock health and productivity.
“Rabies is a 100 percent preventable disease, and vaccination is our strongest shield,” said Dr. Byron Dela Cruz, Provincial Veterinarian.
“By ensuring that dogs in far-flung areas are vaccinated, we are protecting both families and communities from this deadly threat,” he added.
According to PVet, the office has been actively participating in the provincial outreach program even before its partnership with the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development (OPSWDO), underscoring its long-standing commitment to animal health and farmer welfare in South Cotabato.
“By bringing veterinary services closer to remote communities, we make sure no one is left behind in safeguarding both public health and agriculture,” dela Cruz stressed.
The Provincial Government continues to bring essential services closer to communities, ensuring that every farmer, pet owner, and household in remote areas has access to proper care and support.
