South Cotabato, Philippines — In line with the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) 2026, the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC), in partnership with the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) of Surallah and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) South Cotabato Provincial Office, conducted a Drug Abuse Prevention Education (DAPE) session for identified students across the Province of South Cotabato recently.
Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Sonia Bautista, RSW, emphasized that empowering young people through education is one of the most effective ways to prevent drug abuse and protect the future of communities.
“Our youth are among our greatest partners in building safer and healthier communities. By equipping them with the right knowledge and values, we empower them to make responsible decisions and become advocates of positive change. Drug prevention begins with awareness, education, and the collective commitment of every sector of society,” Bautista said.
The activity served as a proactive initiative to educate young people on the harmful effects of illegal drugs, promote informed decision-making, and encourage them to become active advocates in building drug-free schools and communities.
As part of the program, participating students took the Pledge of Commitment, reaffirming their resolve to remain drug-free, make responsible life choices, and support government efforts in preventing substance abuse among the youth.
Bautista further highlighted the Provincial Government’s continuing commitment to strengthening preventive education and collaborative community-based interventions against illegal drugs.
“The fight against illegal drugs is not the responsibility of one agency alone. It requires the active participation of families, schools, local government units, law enforcement agencies, and the community. Through sustained partnerships, we can create an environment where our young people are protected, empowered, and inspired to pursue a brighter future,” she added.
The activity also underscored the importance of collaboration among government agencies and local stakeholders in promoting a culture of prevention and shared responsibility. Through PADAC, MADAC Surallah, and PDEA South Cotabato, the Provincial Government continues to intensify its advocacy programs that encourage healthy lifestyles, responsible citizenship, and community involvement.
By investing in preventive education and youth empowerment, the Provincial Government of South Cotabato reaffirms its commitment to creating a safer, healthier, and drug-free province where every young person can thrive.
