KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — As part of the observance of Fire Prevention Month, the Provincial Government of South Cotabato is intensifying its fire safety measures across government buildings and facilities, reinforcing its commitment to protecting both public assets and the welfare of employees and citizens.
Through the leadership and support of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., the Provincial General Services Office (PGSO) continues to implement comprehensive fire prevention strategies in compliance with Republic Act No. 9514, or the Fire Code of the Philippines, and the safety requirements set by the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Provincial General Services Officer Anna Rose Z. Kasan said that ensuring the safety of the Capitol complex and other provincial facilities remains a top operational priority.
“Our fire prevention efforts are not isolated actions. Everything we implement is aligned with the Fire Code of the Philippines and the standards required by the Bureau of Fire Protection to ensure that our facilities remain safe for employees and the public,” Kasan explained.
Among the preventive measures regularly implemented by the PGSO include routine inspection and maintenance of electrical systems, generators, air-conditioning units, elevators, and other major building equipment. The office also conducts regular checks on electrical wiring—identified as one of the most common causes of fire incidents.
In addition, fire safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, hydrants, and emergency lights are installed and regularly inspected in offices and provincial facilities including the South Cotabato Sports Complex, South Cotabato Gym and Cultural Center, Balay Silangan, and other PGSC-run establishments.
To further strengthen prevention efforts, the PGSO has also issued regular advisories to administrative officers across offices, reminding employees to unplug electrical devices during long weekends and holidays, and to promptly report electrical issues and facility concerns.
Kasan emphasized that fire safety is a shared responsibility within the Capitol.
“Prevention begins with awareness and discipline. Our employees play a crucial role in ensuring safety by maintaining their work spaces and being mindful of potential hazards,” she said.
With the continued support of the provincial leadership, these measures aim to sustain a safe working environment while safeguarding government infrastructure for the benefit of all South Cotabateños.
