South Cotabato Strengthens Population, Family Programs Through Grassroots Services

TUPI, South Cotabato — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato delivered key population and family services through a Serbisyo Caravan in Barangay Miasong, Tupi.

The Office of the Provincial Population Officer (OPPO) led the activity, focusing on responsible parenthood, adolescent health, and population management to support informed family decisions.

Melanie Chiva, Provincial Population Officer, said the caravan, under the CATCH-UP program, brought together provincial and national agencies to deliver accessible, people-centered services.

Beneficiaries received Social and Behavioral Communication Change (SBCC) materials and hygiene kits to promote health awareness and practices.
OPPO also conducted an Adolescent Health and Development session at Jose D. Escobillo National High School, engaging 90 students in discussions on health and responsible decision-making.

An orientation on Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning, including Republic Act 11596, was also held for 80 women at the barangay gym.

CATCH-UP Team Leader Cris Pingkunn R. Fuentes emphasized that the caravan serves as a platform for delivering responsive and coordinated services, particularly in under-served areas.

“True public service is not just about delivering aid; it is about presence. With the presence of the population office we can bridge the gap between our programs and the people, making sure that every underserved area finally feels the weight of our commitment,” Fuentes said.

Meanwhile, Barangay Captain Pablito Escobillo highlighted the value of collaboration and community-based services.

“We are grateful that the provincial government reached our community,” Escobillo said.

Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. said strengthening population and family programs remains a priority, ensuring services reach all communities.

The activity was supported by partner agencies, reinforcing a coordinated approach to public service.
