South Cotabato sustains 1% blood supply across all towns

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato | February 2, 2026 — South Cotabato continues to maintain a stable and sufficient blood supply across the province, as all municipalities and the lone city consistently meet the one percent (1%) blood supply requirement based on total population.

According to Noel Fuscablo, Blood Letting Program Coordinator of the Office of the Provincial Health Officer, the province has sustained the one percent blood supply target since 2018 up to the present, ensuring that hospitals are prepared to respond to medical emergencies and critical patient needs.

“This achievement is the result of strong collaboration among local government units, barangays, health workers, and volunteer blood donors,” Fuscablo said.

He said,  meeting the one percent target means the province has enough blood available to save lives every day.

A total of 191 barangays successfully completed the one percent blood supply requirement, reflecting active community participation in blood donation activities throughout South Cotabato.

Fuscablo added that the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital and Norala District Hospital play a vital role in sustaining blood availability, with the two facilities supplying at least 100 units of blood daily to support surgeries, childbirth, trauma cases, and other medical needs.

To ensure safety and quality, the province currently operates 11 Blood Safety Facilities, which strictly follow national standards on blood collection, screening, storage, and distribution.

The Office of the Provincial Health Officer emphasized that the blood letting program remains a cornerstone of South Cotabato’s healthcare system, strengthening emergency response capabilities and improving patient outcomes.

Health officials continue to encourage residents to participate in regular blood donation activities, noting that a steady supply of safe blood is essential to saving lives and sustaining quality healthcare services across the province.
