South Cotabato tops region in accredited tourism establishments

KORONADAL CITY –August 21,2025- South Cotabato now leads Region 12 with the highest number of accredited tourism-related establishments, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT).

The number of accredited establishments increased from 46 in March 2025 to 55 by June 30, 2025.

Tourism Operations Officer I Francisco M. Cerbo Jr. of the Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Museum Unit (ACTMU) attributed the growth to the rising number of hotels and accommodations in Koronadal City.

The city, as the center, has played a big role in achieving this record. Many newly accredited establishments are based here,” said Cerbo.

Among the most visited sites he mentioned were Punta Isla Lake Resort in Lake Sebu, Habi Hotel in Koronadal, The Farm at Carpenter Hill, and Viajera Dine and Café.

Koronadal, along with Surallah, Norala, and Tantangan, has made progress in securing DOT accreditation, while only Sto. Niño, Banga, and Tampakan have yet to complete it.

He expressed optimism that by the first semester of next year, the province will expand its list of businesses, particularly in these areas. He explained that accreditation is not automatic; establishments must undergo a thorough process, including meeting requirements such as insurance coverage and safety compliance.

“This progress reflects the commitment of both the local government and the private sector to raise the standards of tourism services in South Cotabato,” Cerbo added.

Sout Cotabato leads the region in DOT-accredited establishments and continues to strengthen its reputation as a premier destination in SOCCSKSARGEN, offering visitors more choices and providing safer, higher-quality tourism experiences.
