3 SouthCot towns recipient of EMB’s MRF, Shredder

CITY OF KORNADAL — Three (3) Municipalities in South Cotabato will be recipients of Shredder Machine and Material Recovery Facility (MRF) each that will be given by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environment Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) 12.

DENR-EMB 12 Regional Director Socorro Lanto announced during the National Clean-up Day final meeting held at Fred Ann’s Foodhauz, this city, that Banga, Lake Sebu and Tupi in the province plus ten (10) other LGUs in the region will receive one (1) unit Mobile Shredder Machine and a check worth P260,000.00 for the construction of their respective MRF..

Other LGU-recipients are Cotabato City; Alamada, Makilala and Midsayap (North Cotabato); Maasim, Malapatan and Malungon (Sarangani); Esperanza, Lambayong and Lutayan (Sultan Kudarat).

South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat LGUs were so far the first batch of LGUs that have already executed a Memorandum of Agreement with DENR-EMB regarding the MRF construction, Lanto added.

Stipulated in the MOA are the 50-square meter area requirement and fund liquidation within 90 days upon receipt.

Bai Soraya Meditar of DENR-EMB likewise disclosed that the shredder cost P175,000.00.

The shredders and MRFs, she added, are a big boost in the government’s solid waste management program under RA 9003 otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, which include proper waste segregation, recycling, composting, among others.
