KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — The upcoming celebration of the 60th Founding Anniversary and 27th T’nalak Festival of the Province of South Cotabato is expected to become more vibrant and exciting as a series of sporting events officially kicks off across the province.
Provincial officials believe that the inclusion of sports activities in this year’s festivities will not only strengthen camaraderie among residents but will also attract more sports enthusiasts, including foreign guests, who are expected to witness 17 sporting events starting June 6 until the week-long celebration.
According to Provincial Sports Coordinator Paul Rey Millan, the provincial government has allocated more than P3 million to support the conduct of the sporting activities.
The budget will cover the operational expenses, logistics, and cash prizes for participating athletes and winners in the various competitions.
Millan said that this year’s sports program is one of the biggest sporting events organized in connection with the T’nalak Festival, featuring football, cycling, dart, basketball, volleyball, golf, mix martial arts, table tennis, pickle ball, badminton, bowling tournament, taekwondo, lawn tennis, chess, marathon, and zumba.
“These sporting events are not only for competition and entertainment. They are also aimed at promoting sportsmanship, encouraging people to become more health conscious, and strengthening sport tourism in South Cotabato,” Millan emphasized.
Provincial officials are optimistic that the sporting events will create a positive impact on local tourism and economic activity.
Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. strongly supported the inclusion of the sporting activities as part of this year’s celebration.
Organizers assured the public that security measures and proper coordination with local government units are already in place to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of all events.
