SOUTH COTABATO—-The availability of sufficient and clean water is being emphasized as one of the most important measures in helping prevent possible diseases and other health concerns among livestock during the summer season.
As temperatures continue to rise and some areas experience intense heat, the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian–Animal Production and Processing Center (OPV-APPC), is further strengthening its programs and reminding farmers and animal owners about the importance of proper animal care and welfare.
According to Veterinarian IV Kelvin A. Lucena, DVM, providing animals with sufficient and clean drinking water should remain a priority, particularly during periods of extreme heat.
“Napakahalaga ng sapat at malinis na tubig, electrolytes, at bitamina upang mapanatili ang immune system ng mga alagang hayop”. Lucena stressed
The intensified efforts come as some farmers in the province gradually experience hotter weather conditions, which may be associated with the effects of El Niño.
He also emphasized the importance of providing electrolytes and vitamins when necessary to help support and strengthen the immune systems of livestock and other animals, especially when they are exposed to high temperatures and stressful environmental conditions.
Aside from proper hydration, Lucena also reminded animal owners of their responsibility to provide appropriate care for their animals in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act.
“Hinimok din ang mga magsasaka na kinakailangan ang responsableng pag-aalaga basi na rin sa animal welfare act mapa alagang pambahay man, ginagamit sa produksyon, o para sa human consumption,” Lucena said.
Meanwhile, Veterinarian IV Ella Rose C. Frugalidad said that the OPV continues to provide free vaccination and deworming services for livestock and other animals.
“Isa sa mga serbisyo na ibinibigay natin ay ang mga libreng bakuna sa mga alagang hayop, deworming, Anti rabbies at maramipang iba pa.” Frugalidad said.
These services form part of the province’s continuing efforts to protect the health of animals and help farmers prevent diseases that may affect their livestock.
By strengthening awareness on proper animal management, disease prevention, vaccination, deworming, and responsible animal ownership, the office aims to help reduce possible health risks among animals.
