Surveillance team reports 22 firecracker-related injuries in South Cotabato

Koronadal City—The Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of South Cotabato confirmed  22 firecracker-related injuries as of January 2, 2022.

Cases were 144 % higher compared of the same period last year, according to PESU.

Six (27%) of cases were from Polomolok and Lake Sebu have four cases (18%) . Age ranged from 1 year old to 40 years old. Most of the cases were male.

PESU also stressed out that 14 cases (64%) were directly handling the firecracker/fireworks.

Eight (36%) people involved used firecracker like kwitis.

Suralah reported one amputation during the New Year revelry.  PESU said 23 percent of the cases suffered eye injury. However, all cases were treated as outpatient.

There were no reported cases of death due to firecracker injury and there was no incidence of stray bullet.
