Tamayo highlights IPMR role in South Cotabato development

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. underscored the role of Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representatives (IPMRs) in shaping inclusive development in South Cotabato.

Tamayo said IPMRs are key links between Indigenous communities and the provincial government, ensuring their concerns are heard and addressed through policies.

“Napakaimportante ng role ng IPMR kasi sila ang boses ng tribo sa Sangguniang Panlalawigan… sila ang nagdadala ng issues at concerns ng mga tribo,” he said. He added that IPMRs help ensure laws translate into real support for Indigenous communities, covering issues such as land rights, culture, health, and livelihood.

The provincial government continues to support Indigenous communities through programs on free hospitalization, education assistance, and infrastructure such as water systems and farm-to-market roads.

Tamayo also stressed the need for strong coordination between IPMRs and the provincial government to ensure effective and inclusive service delivery. “Our goal is a province where no one is left behind,” he said.

The governor said protecting Indigenous rights and traditions remains part of the province’s development agenda.
