The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of South Cotabato on its regular session early this week has approved the enactment of an ordinance authorizing Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Binhian ng Timug Kutabato (BINTIKU) Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative.
Bintiku will be the sole cooperative authorized to purchase the palay of South Cotabato farmers after the SP earlier approved Supplemental Budget No. 2 amounting to Php65.98 million which has included the Php10 million fresh funds as Palay Support Fund.
Also included under said the additional fund is the allocation for the Educational Assistance and Establishment of Centralized Dialysis Center and various necessary programs and projects.
Provincial Agriculturist Justina Navarete said more than 100 farmers from the province’s ten towns and the lone city can avail of the program and the list of the beneficiaries is being readied.
She added a total of 548 thousand metric tons is the target volume of palay that can be purchased at Php19/kilo of fresh and wet produce out of the said funds through the BINTIKU Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative.
Governor Tamayo earlier disclosed the purchased palay from the South Cotabato farmers is not only of help to increase their income but it is also beneficial to the province as this produce will be used by the different departments of the province in the implementation of their different programs and projects.
