Nineteen (19) public elementary and high schools joined this year’s province-wide Search for Model Schools in Solid Waste Management Implementation, this was disclosed by Supervising Environment Management Specialist Nencita Acain of the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO).
With this development, the search’s team of evaluators composed of representatives from PEMO, PIO, DILG, DENR-EMP, DepED and South Cotabato Foundation, Inc. conducted its initial “unannounced” evaluation during the last week of July until the first week of August, which was the “window period” set for the contest.
The participating schools, composed of 9 elementary and 10 high schools, were judged based on the following criteria; System and Process – 60 points, Organization and Support System – 30 points, Cleanliness and Beautification – 5 points and Community Participation – 5 points.
Cash Prizes await the Top 5 winners for both categories with additional incentives for Special Prizes and consolation prizes for non-winners.
Participating schools in the elementary level were Polomolok Central Elementary School, Bunaw Elementary School, Bukay Pait Central Elementary School, Lugan Central Elementary School, Surallah Central Elementary School, Sto. Nino Central Elementary School, Lopez Jaena Elementary School, Koronadal Central Elementary School II and Maltana Elementary School.
For the high school category, participants include Sto. Nino National High School, Banga National High School, Polomolok National High School (Poblacion), Cebuano National High School, Bukay Pait National High School, Edwards National High School, Surallah National High School, Sergio Legayada National High School, Marbel 7 National High School and Tampakan National High School.
Polomolok Central Elementary School and Sto. Nino National High School, winners for the past 2 years, are vying for the grand slam in this year’s search.
The final “unannounced” evaluation will be conducted on the “window perio” set from the last week of September up to first week of October.
The initial and final evaluations have both equal 50 percentage points.
