Implementation of KPSGIAP scholarship program is free from politics

It’s election season once again but the scholarship program under the Kabugwason Paglaum Scholarship Grant-in-Aid Program of the provincial government of South Cotabato intended for poor but deserving students of the province will be spared from politics.
KPSGIAP Executive Director Ruel Bagonoc said just like the previous years, the application process will be free from any political influence.
Bagonoc warns interested applicants especially from far-flung barangays they should not believe anybody who promised them of a slot in Kabugwason Paglaum Scholarship Program.
To ensure the authenticity of their application, anybody who wants to apply should visit the office Monday to Friday to get the exact information.
“Another thing is, the application form is free of charge.” He said,
Bagonoc said they have received information about unscrupulous individuals trying to sell the application form for Php10 each. Some applicants were also promised for a slot without even applying just to advance their political agenda.
Starting March 1 to April 12, 2019, the KPSGIAP starts to accept applications for scholarship for the incoming first-year college students.
“Don’t be fooled these people, visit us.” He added,
Bagonoc said, the application forms are unlimited but the slots for the grantees are limited.
This year, the program is set to admit at least 60 more scholars.
Bagonoc added the program has a total of 467 Scholars in degree courses from the First year to the fifth year) enrolled at different colleges and universities in Koronadal City, General Santos City, Davao City, and Sultan Kudarat.
It also supports 17 scholars for the post graduate studies for medicine and law.
Seven of these scholars are enrolled in medicine, four of which are now at the West Visayas State University in Iloilo City and three at the University of Northern Philippines in Vigan City.
Ten others are taking their law studies at the Mindanao State University- GenSan and SKSU.
For the Grant-in-Aid (Tertiary Courses) the program has given assistance to at least 300 grantess for the Academic Year 2017-2018.
Bagonoc disclosed that in 2018, at least 39 scholars graduated and became young professionals. Out of these graduates, eight received academic awards. These include six “cum laude” and two “with honors ”.
For this school year 2018-2019, a total of 235 scholars will graduate from degree courses while two from graduate studies (medicine).
He added, the program maintains a total budget of Php23 million. Out of this budget, Php 15 million was allotted for degree courses, Php 3 million for the grant-in-aid program; and Php 5 million for the graduate studies.
