SP approves purchase of 65k bags of rice and Php33.6M QRF vs Covid-19

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of South Cotabato approves during its special session today two important resolutions in relation to the fight against Covid-19 in the province of South Cotabato.
Earlier today, the SP approves a resolution authorizing South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. to purchase 65,000 bags of rice from the NFA for relief operations in the province of South Cotabato.
NFA South Cotabato OIC Provincial Manager Nelson P. Sañada said their agency has a total of 90,000 bags of palay which can only reach 56k when milled. This supply according to NFA is short of the 65k bags requirement but can still be coped up since the distribution is on a staggard basis.
Sañada however explained, each NFA station is only allowed to provide 20,000 bags of rice per province and the resolution coming from the SP is needed to justify the need for more stocks.
He added, the NFA Region 12 has a total stock of 1.2 million bags of rice which is enough to sustain the whole region for 33 days with the 66k bags consumption per day.
South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo assures the NFA that the province is capable of paying the 65k bags of rice since the province has a total calamity fund or more than Php100 million and the financial obligation only reached Php81 million if each sack of NFA rice costs Php1,250.

The province has an advanced purchase of 2,300 bags of rice for its initial distribution to the municipalities the second wave.

In addition, the SP also approves a resolution adopting and approving the 2020 PDRRMF-IP Quick Response Fund amounting to Php33.67 million to fund the response programs on Novel Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19) in the province of South Cotabato.

Said amount will be used to purchase medical and laboratory supplies, and other supplies (Php11.6 million); provision of relief assistance to disaster-affected families (Php15 million); provision of medical, hospital and burial assistance to affected individuals (Php2 million); provision of quarantine facility, food, and other supplies for the health workers and frontliners (Php 3 million); and Functionality and Equipage of Covid-Center (Php2 million).
