Mosquito-borne Disease Team step up IEC, monitoring on rising dengue cases

The Mosquito-borne Disease (MBD) Team of the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) has stepped up its Information & Education Campaign (IEC) and monitoring on the rising cases of dengue reported by LGUs province-wide.

Though the recorded dengue cases are still below the threshold or alert level, MBD Team Leader Supervising Sanitary Inspector Jose Barroquillo Jr. emphasized the importance of 4S in fighting dengue during the weekly Kapihan sa Kapitolyo media forum sponsored by PGO-Information Division.

4S stands for 1) Search and destroy of mosquito-breeding sites, wherein “Oplan Kulob” – emptying of all containers in suspected mosquito-breeding sites is encouraged in the community; 2) Secure self-protection by using off-lotion, wearing of light-colored clothes or use of Long-lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLITN); 3) Seek early consultation from a physician if you still have fever after 2 days; 4) Support spraying to prevent impending outbreak.

The MBD team will monitor the conduct of the IEC and implementation of 4S in the province particularly where the 3 deaths occurred. Banga, Polomolok and Tboli have 1 death each according to the report of the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (PESU) which recorded already 580 dengue cases as of Morbidity Week #23.
