Koronadal City, South Cotabato – Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr debunked the false claims and circulating rumors that he will declare a total lockdown in the Province of South Cotabato on December 23 and 24, in preparation for the Christmas celebration.
In a radio interview on December 21, 2020, the governor stated he already issued an executive order before entering the isolation facility to look after his son who tested positive for COVID-19.
Executive Order No. 64, series of 2020 entitled An Order Extending the Implementation of Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) in the Province of South Cotabato from December 1 to 31, 2020 provides that most economic activities are already allowed under the approved local economy restart plan. The only prohibited activities during the implementation of the MGCQ are amusement and gaming, gym/fitness studios, entertainment industries (disco/karaoke bars, pubs, nightclubs), and kid amusement industries.
He also said that while he discourages Christmas parties and other gatherings outside the home, he never declared that a total lockdown will be implemented, since there are strict qualifications and criteria before a local chief executive can declare a total lockdown.
“Gusto ta gid ipabalo sa katawhan nga wala sang kamatuoran ina. Nagpagwa na kita sang executive order bag-o pa man ako nakasulod sa isolation facility. Ang aton nga EO hasta sa December 31, 2020 nga under kita sa Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ)… wala sang lockdown nga matabo. Kaya lang may mga nagapalapta gid man noh, may nakaabot gani sa akon. Tuod ba daw nga tungod naka isolate ako, amu na nga maga deklara ako sang lockdown?” the governor expressed.
“Ako pa ang gingamit. So may mga tao gid nga naga guba sa sitwasyon, or kung ano ang gusto nila ipaabot sa katawhan. So ako na mismo nagahambal nga wala sang lockdown, gina discourage lang naton ang Christmas parties… dapat mag halong gid kita,” he added.
“As much as possible, iwasan naton ang mga gatherings, ang mga tapok-tapok, kung pwede lang maiwasan, iwasan gid naton, para sa pamilya naton. So amu na ang akon mga pronouncements, pero never ako nag hambal nga may ara kita sang lockdown nga pagahiwaton kay tungod nga wala man sya sa tama nga proseso, may ara man kita sang mga criteria nga gina sunod bag-o kita maka lockdown. So wala man sya sumulod sa criteria nga dapat i-lockdown naton ang South Cotabato, so para sa akon wala sang kamatuoran sa mga gagawas nga mga issue nga may ara lockdown sa South Cotabato sa December 23 kag 24,” he also declared.
In addition, he asked those individuals who spread such rumors to stop, as they cause panic to the residents of the province.
“Sa mga tao nga nagapalapta sini, please untati nyo na na, kay makahatag kamo sang alarma, sang panic sa tao. Mag panic buying, instead nga hindi kita mag tapok, mag tapok na hinuon, kay tungod hadlok madulaan sang pagkaon sa sulod sang panimalay. Untatan nyo na na, hulaton ninyo nga may announcement sang gobyerno bag-o kamo magpalapta kung legit ang information nga inyo mabuy-an,” he finally said.
