Community pantry: “Not yet necessary in SouthCot” – Gov. Tamayo

KORONADAL CITY- The putting-up of the community pantry in this city shows that the Bayanihan spirit still exists however South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. laments that with the surge of the Covid-19  in the province, said the initiative is not yet fitted.

The community pantry recently put up, inspired by the Maginhawa community pantry in Quezon City was intended for the poor constituents of the city.

Tamayo however fears that if the community pantry will continue, people will flock and they will be out of control sooner.

“I lauded the initiatives of the organizers however, the economy is open and there is still a source of income for our constituents.” He said,

He added, if there will be a lockdown, that is the opportune time to put up said community pantry to help the government.

“We need to help each other but we should be disciplined.” He said,

Tamayo said,  there is a need to adhere to the government protocol on minimum health standards such as wearing facemasks, face shields, proper handwashing, avoid crowded places and report immediately if one is experiencing any symptoms of covid-19.

This month of April posted the highest recorded cases of covid-19 for the province reaching a total of  457 covid-19 cases, which is more than a 50 percent increase as compared to the 623 cases posted from January to April this year.

Based on the latest data from the Integrated Provincial Health Office there are at least a total of 2145 cases of covid-19 in the province.

Out of this data, 279  or 13.02 percent are active cases.

1812 or 84.48 percent are recovered with  54 deaths or a 2.54 percent rate,  which is slightly higher than the national rate of 2 percent.

The record also shows that  1855 cases came from the local transmission, 135  imported from Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs), 20 from   Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROFs), and  136 cases came from Local travels.

Tamayo called on everyone to cooperate and be united since the fight against covid-19 can be won with the support of everyone.

“We are doing our best to prepare if ever cases continue to increase, but we need your help and support.”  He said

He added the initiatives of the government are for the good of all, so everybody should adhere to any protocols imposed by the government.
