Tamayo pushes for the reopening of Gensan port

South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. is pushing for the reopening of the port of General Santos City at Makar Wharf Terminal for more berths for easier transport of imported and exported goods in preparation for the establishment of more economic zones in the province.

Governor Tamayo disclosed that there is a slump in the coming over of foreign investors in the area due to a lack of efficient transport facilities which are only available in Region 11.

“We need to have a faster and nearer route and this should be in General Santos City ports.” He said,

He said he will negotiate with the Regional Development Council to push for the fast track of its reopening along with the provision of needed equipment for its operations.

“The opening of the ports is beneficial for the whole of the Soccsksargen region and not only for South Cotabato.” He said,

Governor Tamayo mentioned that aside from big industries such as the DOLE Philippines, Sumifru, and Stanfilco, among others, the province also plans to put up its own economic zones that are government-led.

These economic zones are set to be put up in Koronadal City, Tupi, Polomolok, or any other areas as soon as possible.

The project is part of the economic enterprise of the province to increase income and provide more jobs for South Cotabato.
