Tampakan, Philippines – The picturesque town of Tampakan has emerged as a shining example of the power of collaboration between the Municipal Environment Office of Tampakan, Provincial Environment Office (PEMO) and the Provincial Information Office (PIO) in the pursuit of environmental protection and awareness.
In a remarkable alliance, PEMO and the local government units have joined forces to plant 200 hills of iron bamboo, symbolizing their unwavering commitment to sustainability. This initiative, championed by Mayor Leonardo Escobillo, is not just about planting trees but also about fostering a deep-rooted connection between the community and the environment.
“I want to make Tampakan a place where we could raise our families,” Mayor Escobillo said during the program before the planting activity began.
MENRO’s role in this endeavor has been pivotal. As the driving force behind environmental conservation in Tampakan, they have provided the expertise and resources needed to make this ambitious bamboo planting project a reality. The iron bamboo, known for its strength and eco-friendly properties, is a testament to the town’s dedication to preserving its natural heritage.
Eileen Estrada, Tampakan MENRO, said the partnership is an initial step for a much stronger partnership in environmental conservation and wider information dessimination.
But the partnership doesn’t stop there. The Provincial Information Office has played an equally crucial role in strengthening the information, education, and communication (IEC) campaign. Their mission is to bring vital information about environmental protection and sustainable living to the grassroots level. Through a series of informative workshops, seminars, and outreach programs, they are ensuring that every resident of Tampakan is well-informed about their role in safeguarding the environment.
Elbe Balucanag, Environment Management Chief, said the synergy between PEMO, MENRO and PIO underscores the importance of spreading awareness about environmental issues and taking concrete actions to address them. Mayor Escobillo’s vision of a family-oriented town in harmony with nature is becoming a reality, thanks to the combined efforts of these two offices.
“As Tampakan continues to grow greener, the collaboration between MENRO, PEMO and PIO serves as an inspiring model for other communities. It exemplifies how a united front in environmental protection, coupled with effective information dissemination, can create a sustainable and eco-conscious society,” she said.
