Gov. Tamayo continues to monitor dengue cases in South Cotabato

SOUTH COTABATO, PHILIPPINES – Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. called on local government units (LGUs) across South Cotabato Province to step up their efforts in controlling dengue by actively collecting empty bottles and conducting search and destroy operations. During a recent press conference, Governor Tamayo emphasized that these measures are vital for curbing the spread of dengue, particularly as the province enters the rainy season.

“Gina encourage ko nga mag fogging ang kadam-an mangin man ang pagpakulob sa mga butang nga nakahamyang” he pronounced.

Governor Tamayo noted the recent increase in rainfall created ideal conditions for mosquito breeding. Areas previously free of standing water now face heightened risks, making effective dengue prevention strategies more crucial. He commended LGU officials for their proactive approach, which led to a noticeable reduction in dengue cases within their jurisdictions.

The Governor also praised the LGUs for their commendable performance, highlighting their successful implementation of dengue control measures.

“ komparar sa nagliligad nga tuig, Mas Maayo ang Performances sang kada LGUs sa pag tatap sang Dengue cases daw regular nga operation’’ He indicated

In addition to acknowledging the achievements of LGU officials, Governor Tamayo assured the public that healthcare facilities in the province are well-prepared to manage any surge in dengue patients. These facilities are equipped to accommodate and treat individuals affected by the disease.

From January to August 4–10, 2024, the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, Disease Surveillance Bulletin, reported a total of 2930 cases here in South Cotabato. The number of cases was 19% higher compared to the same period last year.

Governor Tamayo urged residents to adopt the 5S strategy for dengue prevention, which includes: search and destroy breeding sites; self-protection using mosquito repellents; seek early consultation if symptoms appear; support fogging/springing operations; and sustain hydration to stay healthy.

By following these guidelines and working together, the Governor believed the province can effectively reduce dengue cases and safeguard public health.
