Barangay Nutrition Scholars Program Takes Center Stage in Successful Review and Congress

SOUTH COTABATO, PHILIPPINES – The 2024 Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) Program Implementation Review and Congress, held under the theme “Empowering BNS, Fostering Nutrition Diversity for Sustainable Food Security,” gathered at least four hundred BNS across the province. The event highlighted the vital role of barangay nutrition scholars in improving the health and nutrition of local communities.

Provincial Nutrition Action Officer (PNAO) and Provincial Information Officer (PIO) Rudy S. Jimenea commended the program, stressing the importance of various pilot initiatives launched by Governor Reynaldo Tamayo, Jr. These initiatives include free hospitalization, free education, and other services that directly benefit the people of South Cotabato. Jimenea also noted the recent opening of hemodialysis services in Norala, South Cotabato, with plans for expansion to Polomolok to accommodate more patients in the province.

“Makapila nyo naman sini siguro nga beses nga mabatian, pero ibalik ko liwat nga ga hambal gid siya nga dako ang inyo sini nga kabahin sa aton sin inga Probinsya kay bal an nyo man nga isa sa Major Program ni Gov. Jun Tamayo amo ang Free Hospitalization kag ang aton sini health, ang ikaayong lawas sang atong sini nga pumuluyo diri sa South Cotabato,“ Jimenea stated

A major highlight of the congress was the recognition of the significant contributions made by barangay nutrition scholars. Jimenea emphasized their critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of their communities, particularly in promoting good nutrition and addressing local health challenges.

“Kung mag hambal kita nutrition wala na ina yah sa mas may makahibalo pa sa barangay kondi kamo na ina nga mga barangay nutrition scholars naton diri sa may probinsya sang south Cotabato, amo na nga dako ang inyo nga role,” he added.

In closing, Jimenea called on all BNS to celebrate their special day, as the annual event is a rare opportunity for recognition and reflection. He urged them to appreciate the importance of their work, which is pivotal to achieving sustainable food security and nutrition in South Cotabato.

The gathering served as a reminder of the BNS’s essential services and the provincial government’s ongoing commitment to improving public health through innovative programs and services.
