SoCot sees progress with 91 demilitarized firearms from former rebels

A total of 91 high-powered firearms surrendered by former rebels to authorities were officially destroyed through a demilitarization process.

According to Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Sonia L. Bautista, the demilitarization marks the final phase of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), conducted at the Police Regional Office 12 in General Santos City.

Bautista emphasized that the destruction of these firearms is a clear indication that the influence of rebel groups in the province is waning. Many former members have returned to the fold of the law and are now living normal lives with their families.

Since Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. assumed office, hundreds of former rebels have surrendered to the government, drawn by its programs designed to support their reintegration into society. These initiatives include free education, healthcare, livelihood opportunities, and agricultural assistance tailored to their needs.
