Koronadal City, South Cotabato — A government employee from South Cotabato has earned regional acclaim for his exceptional commitment to public service.
Mr. Romel T. Evangelio, Administrative Aide III (Driver I) under the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, has been named a Regional Winner of the Dangal ng Bayan Award in the 2025 Search for Outstanding Government Workers, a highly regarded recognition bestowed by the Civil Service Commission Regional Office XII.
Evangelio was recognized not only for his professional conduct and exemplary work ethic but also for consistently going beyond the call of duty. His daily responsibilities as a government driver may seem routine to many, but his colleagues and community describe him as someone who treats every assignment with utmost diligence, discipline, and respect for public service.
The Dangal ng Bayan Award is part of the Honor Awards Program of the Civil Service Commission, which aims to identify and reward government workers who have demonstrated extraordinary performance, integrity, and commitment in their respective posts. Regional winners move on to be considered for the national award.
His humility, commitment, and willingness to go the extra mile underscore a powerful truth: excellence in public service is not confined to titles or ranks, but found in the everyday acts of individuals who serve with integrity and purpose.
Mr. Cris Pingkunn Fuentes, Project Development Officer II and one of Evangelio’s immediate supervisors, offered high praise: “He’s hardworking and always eager to learn new things. He is truly passionate when it comes to serving communities, especially in far-flung areas. I can honestly say he is one of the pillars of our program. Even though his position is that of a driver, he has consistently shown the capacity to perform beyond his assigned duties.”
Fuentes added that Evangelio’s story should serve as a beacon of inspiration to other government workers: “I hope he inspires not only employees in South Cotabato but throughout Region XII—that regardless of your position, whether you’re a driver, utility worker, or a high school graduate, you can still become an outstanding public servant. All it takes is giving your best and serving with honesty and heart.”
“We are proud to have him as part of our team,” Fuentes continued, “and even prouder to see his efforts recognized on a regional stage.”
The award underscores the importance of recognizing frontliners and support staff who form the backbone of local governance. It also serves as an inspiration for other civil servants across the region to embody integrity, efficiency, and commitment in their roles.
As Mr. Evangelio continues his service, South Cotabato celebrates not only his achievement but also the values he represents service with honor, diligence, and an unwavering dedication to the public good.
