The Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) will soon introduce Bio-Gas Technology in selected areas in the province after concluding a successful seminar in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) during the 2015 South Cotabato Regional Industrial Technology and Trade Expo held at the PROTECH Center, City of Koronadal.
Environment Management Specialist II Elbe Balucanag, chief of PEMO’s Environment Management Division, disclosed that their office plans to introduce said technology in 4 areas located in Lake Sebu, Lake Lahit and Lake Seloton.
Said areas were recipients of Communal Septic Tank (CST) project, where a number of residents share the use of sanitary toilets and bathrooms and collectively maintain the same.
But Balucanag pointed out that they will start the project with the retro-fitting first of the CSTs to conform to the standard requirement to make it feasible to become a bio-gas digester.
“The retrofitting of CSTs will be the first part of the project before bio-gas technology will be introduce and we will still tap the technical expertise of DOST in the project implementation,” Balucanag stressed.
David Herrera, Science Research Specialist II of DOST Industrial Technology Development Institute- Environment and Bio-technology Division, was the seminar Resource Speaker.
He gave an overview about Bio-Gas technology, Bio-Gas Design and Construction and Research and Development on Bio-Gas Technology.
Some 48 participants joined the seminar that include Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers, representatives from the Provincial Engineers Office, Department of Trade and Industry and DOST and recipients of CSTs.
