Some 300 narra and nabol trees were planted by members of the Association of South Cotabato Earth Savers (ASCES) or commonly called “Earth Savers” together with the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) last June 26 at Barangay Tinongkop, Tantangan
About 200 Earth Savers joined the tree-planting activity that coincided with the Philippine Environment Month celebrated nation-wide every month of June.
After said activity, the ASCES also conducted their annual General Assembly where they gave a posthumous award to Eduardo Ojarliza, which was received by his surviving spouse.
Governor Daisy Avance Fuentes who was the Guest of Honor and Speaker praised ASCES for their cooperation and support particularly in the province’s campaign against illegal mining and logging by acting as tipster.
On the case of a barangay official involved in illegal small-scale mining activity, Governor Fuentes added, that the province through PEMO will pursue the case to set an example that public officials are not exempted from such activities.
Board Member Ellen Grace Subere-Albios, SP Committee Chair on Environment, also inducted new Earth Savers members from Sto, Nino and Tampakan municipal chapters.
Tinongkop is the site of the Integrated Provincial Environment Center (IPEMC) where the Health Care Waste Treatment Facility of the province will be constructed.
Aside from being a treatment facility, PEMO also envisions to put up a training center and a demo center to showcase their environment different programs.
