South Cotabato, Philippines—South Cotabato is fully prepared for the upcoming midterm and local elections scheduled for Monday, May 12, 2025. This was announced by South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. during a recent “Governor’s Meet the Press” event.
According to Governor Tamayo, election-related security measures are already in place across the province. Personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and other law enforcement agencies have been deployed to ensure peace and order before, during, and after the elections.
“In place naman tanan kaupod naman sila sa mga teams kasubong sang PNP, COMELEC, AFP kag iban pa ka mga forces,” Gov. Tamayo stated during the said event.
The governor also noted that the overall security situation in the province remains calm, with numerous uniformed personnel stationed in strategic areas to help maintain peace. He expressed confidence that order and safety will continue throughout the election period.
“So far, peaceful man, madamo man mga uniform personnel nga naka deploy for for the next 7 days I hope tuloy tuloy nga amo ni ka peaceful,” Gov. Tamayo added
However, Governor Tamayo also reported a security concern involving a barangay captain from Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat, who allegedly made threats in a community located in Tantangan, South Cotabato. As a result of the threats, some residents temporarily evacuated the area. In response, the local government has already set up checkpoints and deployed police and other security forces to track down and apprehend the barangay captain involved.
Governor Tamayo assured the public that the provincial government is doing everything necessary to address security threats and maintain a peaceful and orderly election. He also called on the people of South Cotabato to remain vigilant, cooperate with authorities, and help safeguard the integrity of the upcoming elections.
