Fathers share time to submit children for oral polio vaccine

Koronadal City—Fathers too share their precious time to be with their children during the “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio,” a nationwide polio vaccination campaign that kicked off today. In South Cotabato, health officials were at Barangay Poblacion, Tupi to join the event.

“I am happy to see fathers who are here today and are willing to submit their children for oral polio vaccination,” Dr. Rogelio Aturdido, Provincial Health Officer, said during the kick-off ceremony.

Aturdido said the health of the children and the whole family should be a family affair and not for the wives’ sole responsibility.

In South Cotabato, the Integrated Provincial Health Office aims to immunize 95 percent of the 100, 000 eligible children in the province.

Mayor Romeo Tamayo pushed for a complete polio vaccination among the 8, 000 children in the town of Tupi.

“We are trying hard to give our children free education, but we can’t them enough if one of them would have polio,” the mayor of Tupi said, stressing that polio is a lifetime disease that would take the future of a child.

The nationwide polio vaccination campaign In Mindanao started today until  December 7, 2019. And round two will start in January of next year.

The oral polio vaccine is free. The child receives two “patak” of the vaccine.
