South Cotabato, Philippines – Former National Security Adviser Professor Clarita Carlos has lauded the Provincial Government of South Cotabato for its groundbreaking free hospitalization program and the removal of cashiers from public hospitals, making healthcare more accessible to residents.
According to Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr., this initiative is a result of prioritizing essential programs based on direct consultations with residents regarding their concerns and needs.
The governor added that town hall meetings have served as an effective platform for residents to voice their community issues. One of the key concerns repeatedly raised by the public during his first term was the need for free hospitalization.
“There are other provinces that prioritize different programs based on their specific needs. But as a former mayor of Tupi, I saw through a series of town hall meetings that most of the concerns raised were the same—free hospitalization. So, we made it a priority,” Governor Tamayo stated.
Upon assuming office on July 1, 2019, Governor Tamayo immediately ordered the implementation of the Zero Billing Policy, which guarantees free medical treatment at the following hospitals:
South Cotabato Provincial Hospital
Norala District Hospital
Polomolok Municipal Hospital
This policy remains in effect today, ensuring that patients receive medical treatment without financial burden.
Professor Carlos’ commendation underscores South Cotabato’s commitment to providing essential public services, particularly in the healthcare sector. The provincial government continues to focus on policies that address the immediate needs of its people, reinforcing its dedication to accessible and inclusive healthcare.
