The province of Laguna will unveil the tallest bronze statue of Dr. Jose P Rizal at the Laguna Sports Complex AT Bgy. Bubukal, Sta. Cruz during the opening of the 2014 Palarong Pambansa on May 5.
With a height of 26 feet, it is the tallest statue of our national hero in the country, but this time, he is not depicted as an intellectual genius but as a sportsman.
The Rizal statue is attired as a fencer in complete regalia and dominates the skyline within the sports complex.
“Many may not know that Rizal is a great sportsman,” Laguna Governor ER Ejection disclosed,” for he is a fencer, boxer and also an expert in anis, judo and jiu-jitsu. In fact, he is also an accomplished pistolero (shooter).”
Below the elevated Rizal statue, is a library and museum that will house different memorabilia of the national hero.
In Calamba City, the birthplace of Dr. Jose Rizal, a statue was also built in the Rizal Plaza but it towers 22 feet only.
