The Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environment Management Bureau (DENR-EMB 12) recently conducted a Plant Visit for media personalities, who are mostly broadcasters from Koronadal City and Gen. Santos City.
Maysheen Collong, DENR-EMB 12 Information Officer, together with their technical staff accompanied the members of the media on their whole-day guided tour.
First to be visited is the Gen. Santos City Fishport wherein members of the media witnessed first-hand their operation when the daily fish catch arrives at the port in the early morning.
Marcelino Saniel, Quality Assurance Monitor of the Philippine Fishport Development Authority (PFDA), disclosed that tuna arrival at GSC Fishport averaged 660 tons per day of which 30% are processed.
“About 40 metric tons of tuna are exported daily to US, Europe, Japan and sometimes, China,” Saniel added.
Luisito Romeo Correa. PFDA General Manager likewise entertained the media and gave a presentation on the plant’s operation and development programs.
Second stop for the media is Sarangani Energy Corporation located in Kamanga, Maasim, Sarangani. After a brief presentation on the company’s operation and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, the group was treated to a “drive-thru” tour of their 105-Megawat Coal-fired Thermal Power Plant.
After lunch at Sun City Suites, the last stop was the Gen. Santos City Sanitary Landfill (SLF) located at Barangay Sinawal.
Design-Build-Transfer contractor Philippine Ecology System Consortium led by Engr. Edgar Lineses met the media and briefed them of their current SLF operation.
Likewise, the media toured the SLF Leachate Plant that filters the liquid generated by the SLF residual wastes.
