CITY OF KORONADAL — The National Clean-up Day is all set and ready on September 17 in region 12 as national government agencies spearheaded by DENR and DENR-EMB as the event Chair and C0-Chair, respectively, together with LGUs, pledged their support to join the nationwide massive clean-up drive during their final meeting last September 17 at Fred Ann’s Foodhauz here.
Adopting the “ridge to reef” concept, DENR-EMB 12 Senior Environment Management Specialist Dominador Samilin explained that LGUs can strategize on how to conduct the clean-up which maybe either in mountains or watershed areas, urban or rural areas, coastal areas or river systems in their respective area of responsibility.
LGUs and NGAs are also required to report the accomplishments after the clean-up drive in a Reporting Form prepared by the organizers.
During the meeting, some LGUs made a presentation on how they will conduct their respective clean-up drive, particularly, the time, location, the groups involved and the number of participants joining.
Earlier during the meeting, DENR-EMB 12 presented the accomplishments and findings of their “Basura Patrollers” (Solid Waste Management Patrollers) region-wide.
BP, a new program of DENR-EMB being implemented nationwide, has 250 enforcers with 10 stationed in region 12, including 2 in South Cotabato.
DENR-EMB 12 Regional Director Socorro Lanto thanked the NGAs and LGUs in attendance for their cooperation and support in the clean-up drive.
She likewise announced the names of the 13 LGUs who will be the recipients of their Mobile Shredder Machine and Material Recovery Facility (MRF).
Each shredder cost P175,000.00 while a check worth P260,000.0 will be given to each LGU for the construction of the MRF.
