PEMO enforces demolition of illegal fish cages in Lake Sebu

The Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) has started its enforcement activities last August 3 in Lake Sebu and Lake Seloton, which is one of the regular summer program of the office stalled by the CoViD-19 pandemic this year.

PEMO Senior Environment Management Specialist Loida Villa, Focal Person of Lake Sebu Conservation, Rehabilitation and Development Program (LSCRD) disclosed that their enforcement concentrated more on the demolition of illegal fish cages, aside from the clearing of 20-meter passageways in the lake.

“We have allocated P250.000 budget for the demolition activities involving 20 personnel for each lake which will end on August 28,” SEMS Villa added.

The Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Lake Sebu LGU meanwhile is currently spearheading the lake clean-up in Lake Seloton, which is known for its floating water lilies.

Lake Sebu has allotted a budget of P300,000 to P400,000 for the clean-up, according to Villa.
