Some 55 Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers (MENROs), Designated MENROs and Sangguniang Bayan Members province-wide attended the Training Writeshop with Coaching for City/’Municipal LGUs 10-Year Solid Waste Management (SWM) Plan held from May 20 – 22 at Mt. Sabrina Panorama View and Resort at Brgy. Tambler, Gen. Santos City.
The training which was sponsored by the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO)) in partnership with the Provincial League of Local Environment and Natural Resources Officers – South Cotabato (PLLENRO-SC), was conducted in compliance to the deadline of submission set by the National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC).
NSWMC which is based in Metro Manila has passed Resolution No. 134, Series of 2015 that provided for the “Final Non-Extendable Deadline To Submit The 10-Yr. Solid Waste Management Plan s of Local Government Units” effective June 30, 2015.
NSWMC technical personnel Maria Cristina Valdez and Jeep Farrales led the planning writeshop and coaching and later conducted cliniquing after the presentation of the participants’ output.
Said personnel have been roving around Mindanao regions lately to get updates on how LGUs fare in the formulation of their respective SWM plans.
Earlier, DENR-EMB 12 technical personnel presented to the participants sample SWM reviews based on the SWM Annotated Outline as a tool in the preparation of the plans.
PEMO’s Environment Management Division chief Elbe Balucanag, one of the forerunner of the activity, disclosed that the accomplished SWM plan will be submitted to the NSWMC.
PLLENRO President Julian Asion, who is the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO) of T’boli said, he hopes that activity will ensure completion of the revision and updating of the 10-year SWM Plans of the province’s lone component city and ten municipalities as well as 100% compliance on the submission of their respective SWM Plan before the set deadline.
MENROs from Lebak and Kalamansig municipalities of Siltan Kudarat province also attended the 3-day writeshop training.
