SCBIDC eyes bamboo hub inauguration on Sept

The South Cotabato Bamboo Industry Development Council (SCBIDC) chaired by Governor Daisy Avance Fuentes is planning to rush the refurbishment of its bamboo hub building located at Surallah National Agricultural School (SUNAS) in Surallah town in time for inauguration on September 18, which is celebrated as World Bamboo Day.

Forester Mary Jane Manlisis, chief of the Forest and Inland Water Division of the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) confirmed that SCBIDC during its regular quarterly meeting last June 25 have decided to rush the refurbishment and extension of the SUNAS bamboo hub building.

The building’s refurbishment and tension cost is P800,000.00, according to Architect Glendale Marfil during his presentation to the council.

Aside from ribbon-cutting activity during the inauguration, a signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between SCBIDC and SUNAS on the operation of the bamboo hub is also expected.

The council will also conduct maintenance activity on its riparian zone of re-vegetation (RZR) areas which span from barangays Poblacion to Edwards to Sinolon, all in T’boli.

SCBIDC members together with the community concerned will re-weed Safali River where the RZR areas are located.

Meanwhile, Aurelio Launio Jr of the Banga Kawayan Artists Association (BKAA) that is a recipient of the bamboo node project reported to the council the benefits they have received from the project.

Launio disclosed that the equipment has drastically reduced the number of working hours in the production of their products.

BKAA is now producing “bahay kubo” and other bamboo furniture in their mini-factory located in San Vicente, Banga.
