The Provincial Assessor’s Office, in collaboration with the South Cotabato League of Local Assessors, is proud to announce the Real Property Tax Awareness Month celebration. This annual event is held in accordance with Provincial Ordinance No. 56, which officially declares October as Real Property Awareness Month in South Cotabato.
This year’s celebration is packed with activities designed to raise awareness and understanding of real property taxes among South Cotabateños. Highlights include the recognition of outstanding municipal assessors and rank-and-file employees throughout the province. A series of seminars is scheduled for October 16-17, 2024, in the Municipality of Tupi, with a general assembly and awards ceremony on October 18. These events are intended to recognize the hard work and dedication of personnel in the assessment service across the province.
In order to raise awareness beyond government offices, the Provincial Assessor’s Office intends to engage with senior high school students and educate them on the significance and impact of real property taxes.
Engr. Felix S. Sadiang-Abay, the Provincial Assessor, shared exciting news about the recently signed Republic Act 12001, also known as the Real Property Valuation and Assessment Reform Act (RPVARA). This act, signed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in June 2024, establishes a uniform valuation system for use by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), banks, and government institutions. The act also includes a two-year amnesty for real property taxes, which will provide significant relief to property owners.
The implementation of RPVARA is an important step toward a more standardized and equitable property valuation system, which is expected to streamline processes and improve transparency in property assessments.
