SouthCot gets Php3-M swine project from DA

Five municipalities in South Cotabato will benefit from the establishment of a swine multiplier farm after the Department of Agriculture has approved the Php3-million worth of funds for the said purpose.
These municipalities include Tantangan, Norala, Surallah, Tampakan, and Sto. Nino with the Allah Valley Small Livestock and Poultry Association as the lead proponent group.
Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Flora Bigot said the project includes the provision of 40 heads of the breeder, pig pen, and one year supply of feeds, drugs and other biologics.
Bigot said the project will give additional income to the farmers’ organization when these breeders produce young sucking pigs or “biiks” for sale.
For farmer-beneficiaries who cannot afford to puy the “biiks”, the DA opens its newest loan facility known as the Production Loan Easy Access or PLEA program.
This program enables farmers to avail of a loan up to Php50,000 with a low-interest rate.
The counterpart for the provincial government of South Cotabato Bigot said will only be the provision of technical assistance.
During the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan early this week, the SP has approved a resolution which gives authority to South Cotabato Governor Daisy P. Avance-Fuentes to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with DA 12 to push through with the project.
