South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. called on his constituents to continue wearing face masks to protect themselves against Covid -19.
Despite the issued ordinance of the Cebu provincial government on the optional use of face masks, Governor Tamayo still supports the earlier pronouncement set by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. which encourages the public to continue wearing face masks and observing other health protocol against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

Based on the latest Region XII Covid -Tracker of the Department of Health in Soccsksargen, out of the total 417 active cases in Region 12, South Cotabato remains as among the highest with 112 active cases. As of yesterday (September 6), it posted nine (9) more new cases.
Amid the reported slowdown of cases of Covid -19 in the area, two more deaths were reported yesterday and one of these is from South Cotabato who is a 60 years old male with a cause of death as Acute Respiratory Failure; Community Acquired Pneumonia IV High Risk with Hypoxia; considered as Covid -19 Confirmed Critical. The other one is from General Santos City.
Governor Tamayo in an interview with the media said that whatever guidelines the national government has set, he is obliged to follow.
As the President of the League of Provinces of the Philippines as well as the interim chairman of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines, the governor reiterates that he should set an example to all of his members.
He said, their organization already made arrangements they will implement the wearing of facemasks in their respective local government units.
“Despite the so-called “local autonomy” for us LGUs, it is imperative that we should adhere to the guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases,” he said,
