South Cotabato, Philippines – The Dayaw Festival 2024 kicked off today, October 3, in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, under the theme “Strengthening Success 2030.” This vibrant event, part of the Philippines Indigenous People’s Festival, runs until October 5 and aims to highlight the rich cultural heritage of various indigenous tribes across the nation.
Participating tribes, including the T’boli, Blaan, Boholano, Rombloanon, Blaan sangin, Ati from Iloilo, Waray, Ati from Antique, Ifugao, Kalunguya, and Ati from Guimaras, proudly showcased their traditional attire, rituals, and performances. These displays emphasize the uniqueness of each tribe, with colorful costumes that reflect their distinct cultural identities.
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and local officials from South Cotabato, particularly the Arts, Culture, and Tourism Unit, are actively supporting the festival, ensuring engaging activities for participants from across the Philippines.
During the opening ceremony, NCCA Chair Victorino Manalo celebrated the contributions of the artists and officials involved in the event. He expressed deep gratitude to the indigenous communities, stating that the festival serves not only as a celebration but also as a recognition of their vital role in preserving Philippine culture.
“Labi na gid ako naga pasalamat sa mga kauturan nga katutubo nga upod naton subong nga bal an gid naton nga sila gid ang ginumpisahan sang aton silibrasyon,” Manalo said.
The Dayaw Festival 2024 promises to be a vibrant celebration of indigenous cultures, fostering unity and appreciation among the diverse tribes of the Philippines.
