South Cotabato, Philippines — The bidding process for the construction of two new sports complex in the province’s first and third districts is officially completed, Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. confirmed during a recent “Gov Meets the Press” briefing.
“Tapos na ang bidding process nila at tinitingnan nalang nila kung papaano sisimulan,” Governor Tamayo said.
The first of the new sports complex will be located in Tupi Central, while the third district’s sports complex is set to rise in Surallah.
These new projects complement the existing sports complex in the second district, situated in Koronadal City, which is scheduled to undergo rehabilitation, including the upgrading of the rubberized oval track.
“Gagawa tayo ng dalawang sports complex na naka-program sa AIP natin—sa Tupi and Surallah,” Governor Tamayo confirmed. “Tupi for the first district, Koronadal for the second district, and Surallah for the third district.”
In addition to these projects, a new sports area was identified for future development alongside the rehabilitation of the current sports complex.
Governor Tamayo added that they are awaiting budget approval from the provincial council to start construction.
“Hinihintay ko nalang ang approval ng Sangguniang Panlalawigan for the two sports complex,” he explained. “Yung rehabilitation, tuloy na ‘yon.”
The South Cotabato Sports Complex in Koronadal City is also being considered as a potential venue for the Palarong Pambansa next year.
“Baka mag bid tayo for Palarong Pambansa, at sigurado natin na sa South Cotabato alone, kayang-kaya na natin,” Governor Tamayo said.
Moreover, South Cotabato Provincial Engineer Lloyd Esparagosa announced during Monday Convocation Program that they are committed to completing the rehabilitation before the province hosts the 2025 Soccsksargen Regional Athletic Association (SRAA) Meet.
“Tayo yung sponsor sa 2025 SRAA Meet,” Engr. Esparagosa stated. “So yung target natin, matapos before March 2025.”
Governor Tamayo also noted that the current South Cotabato Sports Complex might temporarily close for one to two months during the rehabilitation process.
