SOUTH COTABATO, PHILIPPINES – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 12 in collaboration with the Provincial Government of South Cotabato through the Provincial Youth Development Office spearheaded the first ever Youth Environment and Natural Resources Summit last October 18 at the South Cotabato Gymnasium and Cultural Center.
Over 300 Youth participants from all over SOCCSKARGEN Region represented by various Local Youth Development Councils and Schools graced the pioneering summit, highlighting the Youth’s role in making a big impact in environment protection and preservation.
Vincent Figueroa, SK South Cotabato Provincial Federation President, challenged the youth to participate actively in the call for environment preservation and protection.
“Ang sabi pa nga ng ating pambansang bayani – ang Kabatataan ang Pag-asa ng bayan, kung kaya’t hinahamon ko kayo na tayong mga kabataan ang maging pwersa sa patuloy na pag protekta at pangangalaga ng ating kalikasan..” – Board Member Figueroa shared in his opening message.
Furthermore, DENR 12 Regional Executive Director Atty. Felix S. Alicer also shared his gratitude in seeing the participation of the different youth sectors
“Bago pa tayo magsimula, natutuwa akong nakita na napakaligalig ng ating mga kabataan – nakikita ko ang kanilang aktibong partisipasyon at dahil dito masasabi ko na may pag-asa pa ang ating kalikasan” – ReD Atty. Alicer shared in his speech.
The event aims to broaden the youth’s awareness in environmental protection and preservation through forums about the different Laws concerning environmental protection and preservation in the Philippines.
