PEMO prepares to present 10-yr SWM Plan

The Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) is preparing to present the province’s 10-Year Solid Waste Management Plan on October 8 this year together with the 11 component city and municipal LGUs of the province to the National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC) based in Quezon City, Senior Environment Management Specialist Elbe Balucanag disclosed.

Balucanag, PEMO-Environment Management Division Officer-in-Charge added that their office conducted a Writeshop in Lake Sebu on August 25 – 26 to finalize the plan with the assistance of Technical Working Group (TWG) members from Tampakan, Surallah and Koronadal City Environment and Natural Resources Offices.

PEMO and the TWG thoroughly discussed the Annotated Outline of the SWM Plan composed of ten chapters during the 2-day writeshop.

Earlier, 55 MENROs, Designated MENROs and Sangguniang Bayan Members province-wide attended the Training Writeshop with Coaching for City/’Municipal LGUs 10-Year SWM Plan with NSWMC and DENR-EMB 12 officials last May 20 – 22 at Mt. Sabrina Panorama View and Resort at Brgy. Tambler, Gen. Santos City.

The training, sponsored by PEMO in partnership with the Philippine League of Local Environment and Natural Resources Officers – South Cotabato (PLLENRO-SC), was conducted in compliance to the non-extendable deadline of submission set by NSWMC effective June 30, 2015.

But Balucanag pointed that they will conduct first a review with the Governor regarding the plan before the October final presentation at the NSWMC Office.
