ACTM trains IPs on Musical Instrument Playing, Dancing

Blaan Indigenous People (IPs) coming from different communities in Tupi town were recently trained by the Arts, Culture, Tourism and Museum (ACTM) Unit under  their Capability Building Program on Traditional Musical Instrument-Making and  Playing.

Some 16 Blaans from Tupi NHS and Kablon NHS, among others, participated during the 3-day training workshop which ended in the actual performance during the culmination program.

Resource Persons/Trainers from Barangay Assumption, City of Koronadal taught  the participants on making IP musical instruments such as the Faglong, Sluray and,  Kubeng, stringed instruments  similar to a guitar but made of wood or bamboo.  The training on how to play the musical inst ensued after the instruments were finished.

Meanwhile, seasoned IP dancers Sarah Monday, also  of Narangay Assumption, City of Koronadal and Melba Jambangan, retired DepED Principal and at the same time Cuture and Arts Coordinator of Tupi, taught the participants the Blaan dance called Maral which they performed during the closing program accompanied by the newly-crafted IP musical instruments.

In attendance during the closing program were ACTM chief STOO Argie Ryan Asaria, ACTM Culture & Arts Coordinator TOO II Indira Cagaanan, Tupi Municipal IPMR Pedro Digo, Barangay Kablon IPMR Edwin Sambog and other special guests
