South Cotabato- The Balay Dalangpan, an ancestral home of the Tamayo family, remains a lifeline for patients from South Cotabato seeking medical treatment in Davao City. This private property continues to serve as a free temporary shelter for patients and their caregivers who are receiving care at the Southern Philippine Medical Center (SPMC), a Level III hospital in the city.
For many residents of South Cotabato, traveling to Davao City for medical treatment poses a significant financial burden, especially when it comes to temporary accommodation. To address this issue, Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. ensures that the Balay Dalangpan remains open to those who cannot afford to rent a boarding house while their loved ones undergo treatment.
“Ang Balay Dalangpan ay isang lugar na maaaring gamitin ng ating mga kababayan na walang-wala at walang matutuluyan. Isipin ninyo, kung magbo-board sila, mahigit P10,000 ang magagastos nila kada buwan. Yung iba nga, natutulog na lang sa daan at bangketa. Hindi ko matiis na ganyan ang sitwasyon nila,” Governor Tamayo said.
Aside from free shelter, the Balay Dalangpan also provides free water, electricity, and ambulance services for patient transport between South Cotabato and Davao City.
This initiative reflects Governor Tamayo’s commitment to ensuring that no patient or caregiver is left without shelter and support.
